15,000 Ft Skydive Completed by the CXO Portals Team!
Bloody hell we did it!!!!
This morning CXO Portals consisting of Charmaine Baker, Glenn Hapgood, Jay Barter and Scott Raven jumped out of an aeroplane in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society.
We arrived at Swansea Airport for 8am, checked in, weighed and medical forms completed. Upstairs for the safety briefing and then called through to be introduced to our flying instructor and kitted up.
Jumpsuits, gloves and harnesses fitted – told if we go up and decide not to jump that’s ok but there’s no second opportunity. Practised exiting the plane, what hand signals mean in the air and landing.
Crammed into the plane in rows like sardines and up we went until we reached 15,000 feet. A solo jump went first, followed by a man celebrating his 40th (he was scared of flying so kudos to him). Jay went next who’s scared of heights so hats off to you Jay!
Due to the cloud we had to circle back around again. Scott was the next to go, followed by Glenn – then there was just me and my instructor Alex left. Being last and seeing everyone else drop out of the plane like a bullet was not good for my nerves.
We scooched over on our bottoms, hung out the plane for a split second and then wham free falling for 1 minute at 125mph. We were recommended to keep our mouths shut but I found that impossible as I desperately tried to breath but the wind and force was so strong. Double tap on the shoulders, arms out. Parachute deployed and then I realised how much I was really really enjoying it. Goggles could be removed to see better and a few spins, turns and gliding through the air, views for miles, a little cold when we broke through the clouds – adrenaline sky high (pun galore).
Minutes later, legs up for landing, landed on our bottoms and slid gracefully along the grass, men on the ground to grab our parachutes. High fives and hugs all round and what an experience to do as a team.
Huge thank you’s to all who have sponsored us so far, we have achieved £1,500 of our £3,000 target for a really worthy cause.
If anyone else would like to sponsor us then we would all be so grateful – https://lnkd.in/eMGxqQqM
Super proud of the team, some of us conquered fears, some of us ticked it off our bucket list and some of us just had a jolly good time.
I’d jump again in a heartbeat – what’s our next challenge – watch this space!
